Following sharing that I've started taking the weight loss drug Mounjaro for perimenopausal weight gain I thought I'd document my journey on the medication.

At the time of starting my weight was in the high 80s (kg).

Previous weeks

Mounjaro week 1
How I got on taking the weight loss medication Mounjaro in the first week.

Side effects

Much the same as week 1, I felt a wave of nausea on the Thursday and Friday and also I started to feel quite shaky on those days. I thought maybe my blood sugar was just dropping too low, and though I don't usually eat sweets I started keeping some jelly babies in my pockets and eating a couple when it start to come on. This worked for me.

Mounjaro, the brand name for tirzepatide, is a drug that lowers blood sugar levels so it ties in that if your blood sugar wasn't high to begin with that it could start to drop it down a little too low.

Remembering to eat

This really is something I had to make a concerted effort to keep on top of, especially as I am exercising regularly also.

I struggled to eat any lunch all week and so I switched to small snacks throughout the say - a couple of oatcakes late morning, some berries early afternoon, that sort of thing.

Exercise

  • 1 hour strength weight training
  • 70 miles of mountain bike riding
  • average 10k steps each day

Weight loss

I lost 1kg on week 2.
