Now this is a blast from the past. Way back, over a decade ago I used to write a weekly post about a garden I had visited and other people would join in – a linky.

I'm making concerted effort to try to post on this blog daily, to not let life fly by, to slow down and document stuff, even if it is the small stuff that no one else finds interesting 😅.

So here's how my garden is coming along this week...

My stinky geriatric greyhound enjoyed jumping into the border to pee on my plants with his evil acidic kill-everything-in-a-five-mile-radius pee so I constructed some little 'fences' to keep him off. I have a sizeable woodpile in the corner of the garden behind the trees so I built this. It does need a bit of maintenance but it's managed to withstand gales so I'm rather proud. The birds love it too, especially the baby sparrows who are practising their flying this week.

There's an assortment of pollinator friendly plants in that little border.

Over in the pond area I've made progress. When we moved into this house we inherited the previous owners pond. Small and deep it was full of slimy weeds. We cleared them out and excitedly refilled it, only to find it had a leak and nearly half drained away in one day 🤦🏻‍♀️. Not long after I spied a rat scuttling by it and it was at that point I decided I'd fill it in and pop some plants in it.

This was a harder job that anticipated – it was deeeeep. Now it's home to some alpines which amazingly (for my gardening luck) have taken really well to it.

Over at the back of the garden my homemade bamboo cheap dog proofing has done the trick and kept stinky-dog off the plants. There's a real mix of inherited plants and wild flowers, hydrangeas and tree saplings that I've planted in there. I do need to give it some more thought though as it's all a bit slapdash.

The cheapy IKEA hydrangeas I planted last year have taken really well, they were only £7 each which is about a third of the price I'd seen anywhere else. I didn't hold high hopes that they would take so I'm thrilled they have.

Elsewhere the fruit trees we planted when we moved in a couple of years ago are showing their first fruit and the roses are looking a bit rain and wind battered. They've been deadheaded today so I'm already looking forward to their next blooms.

And that's it from the garden this week from me and my helper...
